VISION THERAPY

Vision therapy also called vision training is a modern treatment modality that targets children and adults. It aims at improving visual skills such as eye alignment, eye tracking, focusing and eye movement. Impairment of these skills is not detected by the traditional eye checks. In other words, the patient can have 6/6 vision and still have an undetected functional vision problem. Visual therapy can also be part of the treatment of lazy eyes and squints. If a child suffers from such a problem, a parent might notice that their child avoids reading, skips lines or complains of headaches by the end of the day. This can negatively impact the child’s learning and cause distress to both the child and the parent.

Such problems are the target of vision therapy. Vision therapy is a personalized training program under the supervision of an Optometrist, it involves visual activities with the aid of different instruments such as prisms and special lenses.

THERAPY

The therapy is held in sessions in office settings as well as at home.  It requires the compliance and the engagement of the optometrist, patient and parents (in case of a child). If done properly, this therapy can train the eye and the brain to work better improving vision, quality of life and child learning.
