Adult Retinal Conditions

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

A complication of poorly controlled diabetes. Patient can have normal vision or in advanced cases, complain of blurry vision, floaters, colour blindness and permanent vision loss.

MACULAR DEGENERATION

MACULAR HOLE

As the name suggests, it is a hole in the macula usually occurs with age due to the shrinkage of the vitreous, which is the gel substance that fills the eyes. It can cause blurry vision and blind spots.

An emergency where the retina is separated from the layer underneath it, depriving it from its blood supply. This condition cause sudden onset of symptoms like floaters, flashes and blurred vision.

Children Retinal Conditions

In the case of a preterm newborn, the retina should be examined for Retinopathy of prematurity. This condition can potentially lead to blindness and should be addressed promptly.
